SANA London S/S 2011 Collection and Interview

Posted on 08 June 2011 by Koko

The SANA London 2011 Spring/Summer collection goes even further than its predecessor in terms of adventurous style.  With its staple bright colours and versatility, the S/S pieces are perfect for sprucing up some summer style.  Koko caught up with Natalie Smith, one half of the SANA design team (alongside Samhar Faid ) to find out more about the designers and their new collection.

How does this collection differ from your previous ones?

Our current collection differs from our previous ones in so many ways.  We have come so far since our debut collection, we are pleased to say that we have introduced a new product -the Sana London Blazer – which has been very successful, but in terms of style, this season we have tried to incorporate contrasting fabrics and colours into individual garments, which is something that we have never done before.

What’s your favourite piece from the collection?  Why?

My personal favourite piece from our latest collection has to be our mustard striped panel blouse; I adore the colour and love the contrast of the two fabrics… And its also one of our best sellers.

How do you both work together when designing clothes?

We both work really well together when it comes to designing as we have a similar eye for fashion and style.  We design clothing that we like to wear so the designing process is not only fun but easy for us.  It’s something we love working on, for us it’s like designing our own personal wardrobe.

What would you say each of you adds to your designs?

I would say I have a good eye for spotting quality fabrics and colours.   Sam is great at identifying key seasonal trends, so as well as keeping our designs timeless and classic, we always ensure that our garments are current and sustainable.

What do you think about this spring/summer colour blocking trend?

Colouring blocking is this season’s latest trend (S/S 2011) and as designers we loved using bold block vibrate colours, not only because they’re visually show stopping but because it’s a trend that is fun and effortless.  It’s definitely a trend that we want to experiment with more.

Are there any other trends you’re a fan of?

Definitely!  For our AW/2011 collection we are introducing our first dress range, and a trend that we are a fan of is the A Line skirt and dress. This is a trend that is reminiscent of the 50s where women embellished their femininity through fashion.

What’s the best way to wear Sana London this season?

The great thing about Sana London is that there are so many different ways of wearing our garments, but for SL S/S 2011 I would personally say accessorize with a simple waist belt.

Proof Sunglasses

Posted on 14 March 2011 by Koko

If you’re looking for a way to look fashionable and save the world at the same time, Proof sunglasses are the way to go.  The label was formed last year in Boise, Idaho (USA) by three brothers who wanted to create environmentally friendly eyewear.  All eyewear pieces are made from sustainable wood sources of bamboo, zebra wood and ebony and the every sale goes to support charitable eye clinics in India that perform sight-enabling surgery to otherwise ineligible individuals.

Founder Brooks Dame says, ‘All of us at Proof have been involved with non-profits or organizations involved in helping others. We all enjoyed our individual experiences, but realized that many times great organizations lack the funding and the exposure to affect change. That’s where we think we can add some value.  It is part of our DNA, if we ever stop helping others I don’t think Proof would continue to exist. You can’t extract that aspect of Proof. It’s like the hot dog without the bun -  you can’t have one without the other.’

Proof are also the first sunglasses company to offer recycling: ‘If you get tired of your Proof Sunglasses  – hard to do, we know – or if you want to change your style up or your Proof sunglasses break after the warranty has expired you can send them in and we’ll recycle them. We turn them into animal bedding or wood pellets for heating homes. Not only that but we give a discount off your next pair of Proofs.’

Proof also design tees, hats, hoodies and accessories.   Sustainable style has never looked as good as it does with Proof.
